trust. but, look, as soon as what president obama wants is speaker boehner say he's going to give on the tax rates. as soon as that happens it will unlock everything else. the white house says boehner knows they will be willing to make structural reform to entitlements and take on his own party on that matter, but they want that concession from boehner about the rates. and you saw boehner walk right up to the line on friday by suggesting maybe it could go from 35 to 37 or give a little bit. they tried to walk that back. as soon as that conservation happens, that will unlock everything. >> schieffer: can speaker boehner deliver the votes in his caucus if in fact he makes a deal? >> i don't think he that's say it. high doesn't have to say it out loud. s that's thing. he needs to signal it in some way and then you'll have a two-stage process. they'll do the fiscal cliff stuff and tax reform by august 1 of next year. >> but the speaker so far has not had a rebellion underneath him. he has said things that continue to move in this direction without a rebellion. here's what happened oned w

all together. he had to make it work. one of the surprising things about president obama in this crisis, i think, is that he walked in as a winner. he just won an election. he had everything going for him, much higher popularity ratings than the congress itself has. the republicans were humiliated. they had no leverage. so you get those republicans in. you get nancy pelosi in. and you shake it up. you give the republicans something so that they can save face pup make them raise taxes. at the end of the day, nobody's happy. but stability occurs. and the thing goes forward. i am continually surprised by president obama that he lets it become these dreadful enervating dramas. >> could i just say that when ronald reagan was president and everything peggy just said is absolutely true-- >> i'm so glad. ( laughter ). >> when ronald reagan was president, grover norquist was in diapers and rush limbaugh was a disk jockey, i think, in st. louis. you have had a hermetically sealed culture grow up on the right in this country that as we saw during the last election, is removed from reality a

, there they were in the oval office, mitt romney and barack obama, not the first time it's happened, and that is our "face the nation" flashback. >> good luck. >> schieffer: it's become traditional for presidential winners and loseiz to get together after the election. sometimes it goes well. sometimes it doesn't. when george bush beat al gore in the bitter campaign of 2000, oit going president clinton invited bush over for a two-hour session. but bush's meeting with al devoir, the man he beat, lasted only 15 minutes. brush said he had to get back to texas for a christmas party. when richard nixon beat hubert humphrey, there was a certain been there, done that, feeling when he invited humphrey of free to chat. >> i recall in 1960 after losing a very close election that president-elect kennedy could me when i was here in florida and history repeat itself. so i know exactly how you feel. >> thank you very much. >> schieffer: after beating bob dole in 1996, bill clinton invited dole to the white house for a ceremony honoring world war ii veterans. dole brought downtown house when he said, "

all of presiden president obama's judges. when he was a senator he had a different view of how to do this, but when it comes to susan rice, i can tell you as far as lindsey graham is concerned i find great fault with what she said on 16 september and in other areas i find her lacking when it comes to being the best choice for secretary of state. but this is up to the president. . >> schieffer: all right, well, lindsey graham i think you played it out in pretty uncertain terms. >> i can add one thing? >> schieffer: sure. >> the next thing lindsey graham wants to talk about is why for soviet hours on september 11 we could not reinforce the compound? did the from order the military and others to come to their aid? and if he did, when did he make that order? when was he first notified? we know every detail of the bin laden raid. we don't know anything of what he did sav did september 11, and if he ordered the people to be helped and there was nothing we could do. what did he say about it? was he mad? we need to get into the details of why we left the consulate so open and unsecured when
